Auf Hamburgischem Stadtgebiet steht nur noch ein erhaltenes Schloss – und zwar im Herzen von Bergedorf. Nach einer langen Historie befindet sich heute ein Museum in dem ehrwürdigen Bauwerk. Urkundliche Erwähnung findet das Schloss als "festes Haus" erstmals im 14. Jahrhundert. Bis in das Jahr 1420 nutzten die Herzöge von Sachsen-Lauenburg das Schloss als ihre Residenz. Anschließend eroberten die Hansestädte Hamburg und Lübeck die vierländischen Dörfer Bergedorf, Altengamme, Curslack, Kirchwerder, Neuengamme und Geesthacht. Mehr als 400 Jahre war das Bergedorfer Schloss fortan der Sitz der gemeinstädtischen Verwaltung zwischen diesen beiden Städten.
